Men facing gender bias

While most people tend to believe that patriarchy gives a man power over others and to some extent it does, but patriarchy snatches away the power that a man has over himself. While gender bias wants to paint women as weak, it also slather men with a façade of being tough. Men are told “ not to cry and show emotions” lest they become weak. They are told that “men don’t fail”. They are drowned in responsibilities so dense that they lose themselves in it. Over time, they become so one with the idea of being the superior and stronger gender that they repress their emotions and deal with it by falling into the clutches of substance abuse and aggression. Men face issues like that of sexual harassment, domestic violence and unjust treatment too but because they supposedly are the stronger gender and will lose their masculinity...

Mental health and gender bias

 A study from the University of Texas found that by not acknowledging our emotions we’re actually making them stronger.For example, you might be angry at your friend for something he said, but if you don't say it then and there, afterwards it could lead to an emotional outburst, which would hurt both you friend and you. Not only men and women but all the genders which are not recognized or given enough consideration, who suffer social exclusion lead to poor mental health. Research suggests that the physical, emotional and mental health of children exposed to social exclusion can be compromised. Children who have been socially excluded influences a variety of outcomes, including lower immune function, reduced sleep quality, reduced ability to calm oneself in times of distress, reduced self-esteem, feelings of anxiety, depression, aggression, self-regulation pro-social behaviour, attentional processes and attitude formation.  Since the dawn of civilization, we, as a society have been so obsessed with the idea of classification that we classified all that we saw and felt, be it colors, toys, career paths and even emotions. When we couldn’t see anything else to divide it on the basis of, we took the trait we saw the most and segregated them all on the basis of gender and somehow gave birth to the evil of gender inequality and discrimination. What is gender inequality? Gender inequality is the social phenomenon in which men and women are not treated equally. It is a practice that causes one sex or gender to be routinely privileged or prioritized over another.
